TurboTax Self-Employed (former online edition)
Discontinued name
If you're hunting for TurboTax Self-Employed online and can't find it, don't worry, you're not missing anything. Starting with tax year 2023, TurboTax retired the separate online Self-Employed and Premier editions and folded both into a single top-tier online product called Premium. So the self-employment features you remember are still right there, just under a new name.
Premium now covers everything the old Self-Employed edition did, including Schedule C, 1099-NEC income, and business expense deductions, while also handling investments, crypto, and rental property in the same product. Prices are approximate, so confirm them on the official TurboTax site.

Our verdict
There's really no decision to agonize over here: online Self-Employed became Premium. If you're a freelancer or independent contractor filing online, Premium is the edition that handles your self-employment income today, and it does even more than the old Self-Employed product, since it also covers investments, crypto, and rentals. Just choose Premium and you're all set.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I find TurboTax Self-Employed online anymore?+
Because it was renamed and merged. Starting with tax year 2023, TurboTax combined the online Self-Employed and Premier editions into Premium. The self-employment features all moved into Premium.
Does Premium cost more than Self-Employed used to?+
Pricing changes every season, and Premium covers a broader feature set than the old Self-Employed edition. Check the official TurboTax site for current pricing so you can compare against what you paid before.
Is there still a desktop self-employed option?+
Yes, but it goes by a different name. On desktop, self-employment support comes through TurboTax Home & Business, which includes Schedule C for sole proprietors.
