Premium = the old Premier + Self-Employed

Through tax year 2022, TurboTax sold two higher online tiers: Premier (for investments and rental property) and Self-Employed (for 1099 and business income). Starting with tax year 2023, Intuit folded them together into a single edition called Premium. So if you're searching for "TurboTax Premier online" or "TurboTax Self-Employed," Premium is the product you're looking for now.

That makes Premium the catch-all for complex personal returns: it handles capital gains from stocks and crypto, rental property depreciation, and Schedule C business income with expense tracking and the Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction.

Is Premium worth it?

If you have a brokerage account with sales, a rental, some crypto activity, or any freelance income, then yes — those situations genuinely call for this tier, and the automatic import of your 1099-B and crypto transactions can save you hours. If all you need is to itemize as a homeowner, Deluxe is cheaper and gets the job done. A lot of freelancers also take a look at TurboTax Live Assisted Premium for an expert review at tax time.
