E-file Rejected IND-032-04: Spouse's Prior-Year AGI Mismatch

Symptoms
- •Your joint e-file is rejected with code IND-032-04.
- •The message points to the spouse's prior-year AGI being incorrect.
- •Resubmitting with the same spouse AGI keeps failing.
What causes it
- ▸The spouse's entered AGI doesn't match last year's filed return.
- ▸You and your spouse filed separately last year, so each has a different prior-year AGI.
- ▸Last year's return was filed late or not yet processed by the IRS.
- ▸The spouse is a first-time filer with no AGI on record.
How to fix it
1Enter the spouse's exact prior-year AGI
- Locate last year's return that included your spouse and find the AGI line.
- If you filed jointly last year, both spouses use the same joint AGI.
- If you filed separately last year, enter each person's own prior-year AGI.
- Re-submit the return.
2Try 0 for the spouse's AGI
- If the spouse's prior return was filed late, on paper, or not processed in time, enter 0 for the spouse's AGI.
- A spouse who is a first-time filer should also use 0.
- Re-transmit the return.
3Confirm the spouse's AGI with the IRS
- Have your spouse request a free IRS tax transcript at irs.gov.
- Use the AGI listed there for the spouse.
- Save and re-submit the e-file.
